Emergency active transport measures are being implemented across the city with some up and coming changes to Corporation Street, Albert Street and Victoria Street.
To reduce through-traffic, ease congestion, and improve bus journey times and the functionality of the bus station, Corporation Street will be open only to buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians between the hours of 7.00am and 7.00pm each day from Sunday 2nd August. No restrictions will apply outside of these hours.
Works will begin on Albert Street and Victoria Street, which from Monday 3rd August, will become one-way with road space reallocated for cyclists and pedestrians, to enable more space for social distancing.
Specific measures include:
- One-way traffic with two-way cycling from Exchange Street junction to Victoria Street’s junction with Wardwick.
- Suspension of the bus stop outside HSBC. Services will be redirected to Victoria Street bus stop outside the former Debenhams.
- Extra space will be created around the bus stops outside Hook and Eye on Albert Street, and the former Debenhams site on Victoria Street to allow bus passengers and pedestrians to practice social distancing and create a safer environment.
- Inbound buses will be re-routed down Bold Lane, Cathedral Road, Full Street and Corporation Street.
