Derby City Council have advised that the renovation work on Derby Market Hall continues on schedule. Newly installed lights are to be switched on at the end of the week before the completion of the work deck. The full scaffolding and work deck should be in place by December to enable the survey of the roof to start.
Construction crews will soon be switching from a night-time to a day-time schedule. This means that traders and shoppers will hear construction noise above them and the noise will be assessed before a discussion on how to reduce the levels.
Scaffolding and security hoardings are to be erected in early September in the Lockup Yard. Temporary fencing has already been set up in the area that the hoardings will occupy so that market users can become accustomed to the reduced space.
The current program anticipates that the roof repairs and removal of scaffolding will be completed by September 2021. The plan will be updated in mid-2019 after the examination of the roof to determine the extent and duration of work required. Refurbishment works to the inside of the building will not take place until the roof works are completed and the scaffolding removed.
The Market Hall remains open to customers throughout the renovation works.
