Assembly Rooms

A feasibility study has been started to determine the scope of works and cost required to re-open the Assembly Rooms. When completed, the result will be presented for a decision on how to proceed with the project to revive the venue in the quickest time possible.

Becketwell

A portion of the £8.6 million grant that had been designated for the construction of a new music and performance venue in Derby city centre has been reallocated to the Becketwell Regeneration Scheme. The remainder of the money will remain in the portfolio for the renewal of the Assembly Rooms.

Bold Lane

An application to construct larger quality office spaces in Derby city centre is due to be filed with the city’s planning department this month and if approved, construction would start in the winter. Under the agreement, the council will sell the land to Jensco for the design and build of a high-quality four-storey 34,000 square foot Grade A office block, to be let as a whole or as single floors at Bold Lane in the Cathedral Quarter.

Derby Market Hall

Cabinet members recently visited Derby Market Hall for a tour of the renovation works to the roof and a view of the progress being made. The work area is expected to be completed in November and this will be followed by detailed surveys of the roof to understand the extent of repairs which are required.

Derby Silk Mill

The Derby Silk Mill is now halfway through a five-year programme to create the Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Derby City Council, Arts Council England and D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership. The building will undergo a full re-development during 2019 and is scheduled to re-open in 2020, displaying fascinating items from Derby’s rich industrial history, and provide inspirational learning programmes and activities to bring thousands of visitors to the city each year.
