Derby City Breastfeeding Welcome Award Scheme

20/03/2025

Businesses and public places that actively make their premises welcoming for families to breastfeed can positively contribute to feeling more confident about breastfeeding in public. Families are more likely to return to venues they feel comfortable in, stay longer and spend more. The Breastfeeding Welcome Here scheme is free to join and simply involves the completion of a very short online form.

Watch the short promotional film to find out more!

Criteria to achieve the award is as follows:

  • Provide a comfortable space for women to breastfeed; it can be within your main area, a separate room but this should never be a toilet;
  • Treat breastfeeding mums the same way you would any other customer;
  • Show the informal training film to staff so everyone can be supportive of breastfeeding;
  • Display your certificate and window sticker to proudly show that you welcome breastfeeding.

The window stickers and training film link will be posted out to you on completion of the online application.

If you are interested in applying for the Breastfeeding Welcome Award please complete the online form at: https://www.derby.gov.uk/health-and-social-care/breastfeeding-support/#page-5before.
