Mini Ram Characters Bed Down For Sleepovers in Local Businesses

Businesses across the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) in Derby city centre are showcasing their own flock of mini ram characters as part of this summer’s Derby Ram Trail.

The Great Ram Sleepover runs from 14th – 26th June and will feature ten mini Ram characters who will stay in a business for four nights before moving to another business window for the next four nights.

All ten Rams have taken on their own character thanks to the crafting skills of Cathedral Quarter BID project executive Eve Taylor who has made the costumes.

They are:

  • Chef RAMsay;
  • RAMesh RAMganathan;
  • SuperRAM;
  • Edward ScissorRAM;
  • Ed SheeRAM;
  • Lewis RAMilton
  • Freddie MercuRAM;
  • RAMadona;
  • RAMuel L Jackson;
  • RAMbo.

Visitors are inited to find them and share on social media using the hashtag #GRSCQDerby and the standard plush Rams can be purchased for £12 each alongside other Derby Ram Trail themed merchandise available at Derby Museums.

Rescheduled from last summer, The Derby Ram Trail has been brought to the city by Derby Museums, in partnership with Wild in Art and is an amazing public art sculpture event with 30 individually painted 5ft tall Rams, threading through the city centre between May 27 and August 22.

The Cathedral Quarter BID are the presenting partner and St Peters Quarter BID are the trail partner for the project – reflecting the positive impact that the trail has already had on the two areas where the majority of the sculptures are situated.

Other initiatives launched by the BIDs as part of the Derby Ram Trail include a special prize draw.  Anybody spending more than £5 at any Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter business can upload their receipt via this link https://www.derbycathedralquarter.co.uk/news/derby-ram-trail-receipt-competition/  to be entered into a prize draw to win £100 to spend at any CQ and SPQ business.

Both websites also include a range of children’s Ram-themed activities including making Ram horns, cupcake recipes and instructions for how to create and play the game of Mehen.

In a joint statement, Martin Langsdale MBE, chair of the Cathedral Quarter BID and Helen Wathall MBE, chair of St Peters Quarter BID said: “The Derby Ram Trail 2021 is already attracting visitors back into the city centre and into businesses in the BID areas.

“We wanted to create additional activities to mark the Trail and Eve has done an incredible job creating these wonderful mini Ram characters for the Great Ram Sleepover.

“It is just another way of adding to the fun of the Derby Ram Trail which has brought much-needed colour, pride and sense of community to the city centre this summer.
