Profile

Derby was a place of industry, philosophy, and poetry in the 18th century. This event will explore how rhyme and reason were interlinked in local history, and how they are still connected today.

Through a range of family-friendly activities at the Museum of Making, you will learn about this history by creating poetry with natural materials and walking through the city. Discover how poetry is not only the creation of metaphor and verse, it also the making of place.

This event is part of the Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information please see beinghumanfestival.org.
