Singers around Derby are invited to join celebrated composer Alexander L’Estrange for a Royal School of Church Music special choral event at Derby Cathedral on Sunday 16 June 2019. Alexander will be leading a workshop to learn his new ‘Service with a Smile’ which has been composed specially for this occasion. The Cathedral choir will join with the workshop singers for its premiere during the service. Most of the service will be accompanied by a jazz band.
Alexander L’Estrange has led singers in choral workshops throughout the UK, from school halls to the Royal Albert Hall, and in the USA for the American Choral Directors Association as well as for the King’s Singers’ Summer School.
The event forms the flagship of the Royal School of Church Music’s ‘Music Sunday’ – an annual celebration of music in worship with events in the UK, the US and New Zealand.
The workshop, which costs £10, will start at 3.00 pm with a break for tea before culminating in a performance as part of the service of Choral Evensong at 6.00pm.
