This course centres around recycling and sustainable creation. The aim is to educate you on how to turn HDPE (high density polyethylene) plastic into beautiful and functional materials/tools, the outcome will be your very own milk bottle mallet.
Multimedia Artist and Maker Arthur Scott will lead you through the processes; melting and casting HDPE, finishing the surfaces and drilling an eye for the handle, turning a handle on the lathe and setting it in the head with a hardwood wedge.
You will be given a handle blank and a 50mm/50mm/100mm HDPE billet. You will take part in one melt/cast which will use colour from lids and other HDPE sources, this is to show you every stage and to show that you can include colour to create marble effect.
You will also encounter unique and beautiful items from Derby Museums’ collections to inspire your own creations.
This course is suitable for complete beginners, seasoned makers and anywhere in between.
Participants must be aged 18 years and over.
