Assemble: Derby’s Making Festival is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, which celebrates making in all its shapes and forms. The last event in 2022 saw audiences of over 3,000 in attendance and featured more than 50 makers on-site, with demonstrations in everything from ceramics and embroidery to laser-cutting, weaving, jewellery-making, metalwork, robotics and automata. Visitors were invited to take part in special workshops; a Chocolate Investigation Lab run by Rolls-Royce, clay-modelling with Aardman Animations, and letterpress printing from The Smallprint Company.
This year, Assemble brings together artists and makers from varied disciplines to share their passion and skills with the public and to encourage everyone to have a go at making themselves. For makers, Assemble offers an opportunity to share creative passions and skills, to network with other makers and artists and to inspire makers of the future, all in the surroundings of the Museum of Making, a UNESCO World Heritage widely regarded as the site of the world’s first modern factory.
