Cathedral Quarter BID Renewal 2023 - 2028

Message from the BID Board Chair

The current Cathedral Quarter BID term is due to end on 28th February 2023. As such, we have now begun the process of renewal which will culminate in a vote by businesses in a ballot to be held late this year.

We have achieved a lot together over the last four years but in these challenging times we need to ensure that we create a new business plan which is fit for purpose for the next five years and beyond and your involvement is crucial, so we can build upon what we have already accomplished and ensure that our business community benefit from new opportunities and drive the future development of the area.”

There will be forthcoming communications and updates in the weeks ahead, with regular Renewal Ebulletins to keep you updated, workshops to enable you to provide your input and new features on the BID website.

Message from the BID Board Chair

What is Renewal?

Cathedral Quarter is a Business Improvement District both funded and governed by businesses located in the Cathedral Quarter BID boundary. The first CQ BID started in 2008 and has been renewed twice since then. Since 2018, the BID team has carried out a five-year plan to support businesses, act as a collective voice for them and continue to work on raising the profile of Cathedral Quarter making it a safer, cleaner and livelier place to visit and do business.  The current Cathedral Quarter BID term is due to end in February 2023 and must undergo what is called a ‘Renewal Ballot’. Businesses who are over a certain rateable value within the BID area will be asked to vote in favour of supporting a third five-year term. The outcome of the Renewal Vote will affect the future of the Cathedral Quarter business community.

Discussion Events

During the Cathedral Quarter Renewal process, we are holding a series of discussions which will enable businesses from across the area to come together and discuss their thoughts for the future and identify specific activities which will need to be included in the plan. This will ensure that the business views represented were as broad as possible by both geography and business sector in the Cathedral Quarter area.

The next events take place on Thursday 9th June. Please choose the timeslot that best suits your business.

8-9am – Bean Caffe – Ford Street

1-2pm – The Old Bell, Sadler Gate

3-4pm – The Old Bell Sadler Gate

5.45 – 6.45pm – The Sanctuary at Derby Cathedral, Iron Gate

We encourage anyone that would like to join one of these discussions to call the BID office on Tel: 01332 419053 or email: enquiries@derbycathedralquarter.co.uk

Discussion Events

Renewal events

We recently held a Cathedral Quarter Open Forum in which a number of businesses attended for a discussion on the challenges and opportunities for businesses in CQ. A lot of very valid points were raised and this information will be invaluable to us when shaping the business plan for the next five years of the BID.

Rachel North, Deputy CEO of Derby City Council also attended to give a presentation on the key developments in Cathedral Quarter. The slides from that presentation can be downloaded here.

Thank you to all that attended for your input.
