Shopping in Derby

Events In the Cathedral Quarter

Throughout the year you will find a multitude of events and entertainment within the Cathedral Quarter, creating a fun and friendly atmosphere for all the family.

Throughout the summer, on the second Saturday of each month, the Cathedral Quarter hosts the CQ Saturdays Street Circus, a fascinating display of circus and theatre acts which will leave you mesmerised. 11am - 3pm  Marketplace

Every third Saturday in the month, CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious takes place. A combination of music, comedy and performing arts is sure to keep you entertained  11am - 3pm Marketplace


On the fourth Saturday, between May and August, our CQ Saturdays Edwardian Themed Street Theatre will move around the area to entertain shoppers and visitors with sketches and scenes. 11am - 3pm 

And there’s more! The Cathedral Quarter also plays host to the Furthest From the Sea Festival, Derby Folk Festival, Derby Feste, Derby Beer Festival, the Derby Christmas Ice Rink and the regular Farmers' Market that takes place every third Thursday of the month.

Our new Summer 2016 exhibition Everyone - Your Place in the World is an Open exhibition reimagined for 2016.At Derby Museums, we believe that ‘everyone can be an artist’ and that all human beings have the power to shape their world through their own creativity.

We’ve invited everyone to enter an art work on the theme of ‘Your Place, in the World’ and have exhibited all of them here in this celebration of creativity.

We’re delighted to be hosting this exhibition and hope that our open approach will add a unique Derby twist to the
landscape of Open art exhibitions in the region. You may even be tempted to buy a piece or two!

LIPA Courses

The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA)

Derby College has teamed up with the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) - which was co-founded by Sir Paul McCartney - to open a part-time performing arts academy in the city. Children and young people can unleash their creativity and develop their talent at a range of inspiring LIPA Academy singing, dancing and acting sessions which take place on Saturdays during term time.

Performing Arts Classes

Derby College is pleased to be delivering part-time performing arts classes for young people aged 4-19 through LIPA 4:19. The classes will take place on Saturdays at the Joseph Wright Centre.

The Bless Quiz takes place every wednesday. there are great prizes to be won such as £50 drinks vouchers, £10 drinks vouchers, and bottles of wine.  We also give away spot prizes throughout the quiz.

The quiz itself features a picture round and a music intro's round.
