Derby Cathedral Assistant Curate Revd Andy Trenier explained: “Derby Cathedral is a fast paced, and exciting place to work.
“We are open for the whole community 365 days a year and the Apprentice Verger will be an important part of the team welcoming one and all to the Cathedral for a wide variety of purposes.
“We have also received funding from Arts Council England and the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund which have given us the equipment and opportunities to increase our capacity and potential as a performance and events venue.

“We are delighted to be working with Derby College who will handle the recruitment and training of this position and I hope that young people will recognise that this is a fantastic opportunity to learn some valuable skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.”
Derby College Business Development Director April Hayhurst said: “This is a unique opportunity for a special person to work at the heart of one the regions’ best known institutions.
“It is definitely one of the more unusual apprenticeship roles that we have worked on but I am confident that we will be able to find the right candidate for the Cathedral and support the young person onto the first rung of what will be a fascinating career ladder.
“The diverse skills and experience that the successful candidate gains will open many doors for them in a wide range of future careers.”

FRIDAY 30 JANUARY 7.30PM

Murmur

Presented by Aakash Odedra Company

Aakash Odedra is one of the most sought after British choreographer/dancers today. Originally trained in the South Asian styles of Kathak and Bharat Natyam, Odedra has developed a distinctive movement style following intensive training with some of the most prestigious choreographers in the world.

Diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, Aakash found conventional education challenging and dance became his preferred mode of expression. In Murmur, Aakash and Australian choreographer Lewis Major delve into the idea of warped and exaggerated realities.

Scarification and tattoos have been used since old times as marks of identity or experience. In Inked, choreographed by Damien Jalet , the body becomes a place of transformation, an envelope marked, folded and metamorphosed by its journey through a ritualized space.

Derby Live
A pairing of two generations of captivating singer songwriters, Amy Wadge and Luke Jackson, touring together for the first time across the UK

Amy is widely regarded as one of the country's most successful female singer/songwriters. Over the course of five solo albums, two collaborations, numerous compositions for other artists and hundreds of live performances all over the globe, she has established an outstanding body of work. Her voice is simply amazing with a breathtaking range and emotional impact while her songwriting continues to surpass most of her contemporaries. She has recently written songs with numerous upcoming songwriters, including Ed Sheeran, who released an EP, “Songs I Wrote With Amy”.

BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris describes her as "An irresistible, riveting performer"

Luke is a rising young Roots singer/songwriter from Canterbury, Kent , and 2013 saw him nominated for both the Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent and the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.
With a bold, show stopping voice and honed guitar skills, Luke is a confident and captivating performer demonstrating an astonishing maturity. He has been making waves on the live acoustic scene supporting such luminaries as Show of Hands, Paul Brady, Chris Wood, Steve Knightley, Karine Polwart, Oysterband and Martyn Joseph and he has delivered startling performances on the UK festival scene, from Cambridge to Sidmouth and The Great British Folk Festival.

According to Acoustic Magazine, he is “an outstanding heir to the likes of Richard Thompson and Martin Simpson”. With a wealth of finely-observed narrative songs, his most recent album, “Fumes and Faith” emphasises the exceptional maturity and versatility of one of the most exciting young singer songwriters and live performers on the scene!

Lowther is celebrating his 70th birthday this year but sounds as casually sprightly as he did four decades back, and provides original compositions alongside Mullen, with the repertoire otherwise focusing on elegant covers.
