  • CQ BID and Business News E-bulletin                                                                     Issue 389 July 2017           Your weekly news & updates      Ninth Annual Derby Food and Drink Awards Launched The ninth annual Marketing Derby Food and Drink Awards which celebrate the best restaurants, pubs, bars and cafés in Derby and Derbyshire has been officially launched. There are 8 categories open for nomination including Best Newcomer, Best Pub, Best Bar, Derby Telegraph Excellence in Customer Service, Best Café, Best International and Restaurant of the Year.                Nominations will close on 18th August after which finalists will be announced for each category.    The winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony held at The Roundhouse on 9 October.    For more information and to make your nominations, please click here.     Great British High Street Awards update Following the Cathedral Quarter's success at the Great British High Street awards in December, the BID has now been presented with a cast iron plaque commemorating its success in being named the UK's 'Best City Location'.   The BID would like to hear from businesses as to where they would like to see the plaque displayed - this would need to be in an area of high visibility and subject to planning and conservation regulations. If you have a suggestion(s) please contact the BID office on 01332 419053 or via email.   Last month businesses voted overwhelmingly to spend the prize money received on a co-ordinated promotion and advertising campaign to promote the area and the award. Further information on this will be provided in due course.      Invitation to become a member of Cathedral Quarter BID Businesses within the Cathedral Quarter who pay a BID levy are invited to become a member of the Cathedral Quarter Company Ltd, the registered company limited by guarantee, which is charged with the responsibility for delivering the Business Improvement District Plan (2013-2018). Becoming a member gives you the opportunity to attend the company's General Meetings and to vote on BID Company issues. Each business is entitled to one member and one vote. For further information please click here or contact the BID office on 01332 419053.     Other important news for businesses     Jenson Button Triathlon comes to the Cathedral Quarter The cycling stage of the Jenson Button Triathlon will pass through the Cathedral Quarter for the third year running this Sunday 23 July whilst a new children's bike race will also take place during the day. The main event will run between 8.30am and 11.00am before recommencing at 12.30pm all the way through to 4.30pm. The Childrens Cycle race will take place during the interval. The triathlon route takes in King Street, Queen Street, St Mary's Gate, Bold Lane, Walker Lane, Jury Street and Cathedral Road whilst the children's race will also include Iron Gate. There will be road closures in the area, although access points will be in place throughout the day - for further information please click here.   • CQ BID and Business News E-bulletin                                                                     Issue 378 May 2017           Your weekly news & updates      New Floral Displays for the Cathedral Quarter The Cathedral Quarter BID have provided funding to install a large number of colourful hanging baskets in the area.   The baskets are now installed and starting to flourish on existing infrastructure on Iron Gate, Market Place, St James Street and Cornmarket until the autumn.      Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Christmas Ice Rink tickets now on sale. The Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Christmas Ice Rink returns for its 8th Year in the Market Place, with the fun beginning on 1 December 2017 and running until 2 January 2018.   Tickets are on sale now and are priced between £6.50 and £8.50, with concessions up to £7.50. Discounted tickets are available for families and also groups. Arts and cultural businesses in Derby have been awarded a combined total of over £10m from the Arts Council England as part of its National Portfolio: 2018-22 programme.    Quad in the Market Place has been awarded £1.8m over the course of the next 4 years, whilst Déda on Chapel Street has received a 44% increase in its funding, an increase of £105,000 a year.     Other important news for businesses     Weeping Window Visitor Numbers and footfall figures. The Weeping Window display at Derby Silk Mill has attracted more than 82,000 people during its first two weeks - with visitors travelling from as far afield as New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong and the USA.   Footfall data analyzed by the BID has shown a 3% increase during the first week of the poppies arriving. The installation is at the Silk Mill until the 23rd July.     Footfall and sales information available for CQ businesses Partnerships for Better Business (pfbb uk), contract managers for the Cathedral Quarter, will be revamping its weekly sales and footfall monitor scheme in the coming weeks, ensuring businesses receive the latest news and information relevant to them. In return for submitting a weekly percentage sales figure, businesses receive an invaluable report containing the latest information on weekly footfall, local and national footfall and sales trends, and sales in the city by business sector. Figures remain confidential and will never be quoted as part of the report.   • CQ BID and Business News E-bulletin                                                                     Issue 387 July 2017           Your weekly news & updates      Derby Retains Purple Flag AND wins National NTE Award for management of the Evening Economy It was announced at the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM) awards last week that Derby has retained it's Purple Flag status for a further year.  An international accreditation scheme which recognises excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy, the BID has played a key role in helping to retain Purple Flag Status for the city. Those cities in receipt of this award benefit from more visitors, lower crime and anti-social behaviour and improved perceptions.  Derby also received the national award in the Night Time Economy Management category, further recognising the work of Derby City Council, Cathedral Quarter BID and the businesses in the area in providing a safe and enjoyable night out in the city.   For further information on Purple Flag please click here.     BID places targeted adverts for evening economy, food and drink businesses   In addition to the recent CQ Life Magazine, the Cathedral Quarter BID has also placed a number of adverts, editorial and promotions within targeted publications recently aimed at promoting the diverse evening economy and food and drink sectors in the area.   Adverts have been placed in the following  publications:   Full page advert within the 'Three Courses' Magazine available at The Great Food & Drink Festival held on Markeaton Park on 17 & 18 June;   Full page advert in the programme for the Derby City Charter Summer Beer Festival to be held on the Market Place on 5 - 9 July;   Two page editorial and advert in the magazine for the Elvaston Food & Drink Festival being held on 15 & 16 July;   Full page advert in the freshers edition of the Student Pocket Guide out in September.     CQ organisations represented in the East Midlands Chamber Business Awards 2017 Cathedral Quarter organisations have been unveiled as finalists in the 2017 East Midlands Chamber awards. It will be the fourth year the event has taken place in a giant marquee on the Market Place. There will be hundreds of beers, ciders and perries on offer plus live entertainment and food. Two Cathedral Quarter businesses will also have a prominent presence at the event with both The Forge and Old Bell Hotel doing a 'tap takeover'.    The Cathedral Quarter BID has also taken out a full page advert in the programme for the event so keep your eyes peeled for this on your visit! For further information on this years event please click here.     Arriva Treasure Hunt - opportunities for business involvement and marketing Arriva Derby have announced a Treasure Hunt around Derby over the school summer holidays to encourage families to get out and about and use their saver tickets.   The event is open to all families and participation will be free of charge. The treasure hunt will include locations across the city, including within the Cathedral Quarter.      Businesses can get involved in the event and gain additional publicity free of charge by providing offers which will then be promoted alongside the event.
