The scheme encourages members of the public to purchase vouchers at a cost of £1 and which can then be exchanged by the recipient for a hot meal and drink at the Padley Homeless Centre on Becket Street.   • CQ BID and Business News E-bulletin                                                                     Issue 364 February 2017           Great British High Street Awards Update   The Cathedral Quarter BID has now received further information from the Great British High Street Awards regarding the public vote and judges' visit. It has now been announced that a total of 13,052 votes were cast for the Cathedral Quarter, making it a winner of the public vote. Thanks go to everyone who cast their votes in support of the awards.       Feedback from the judges' visit   On their visits to the city location finalists, judges scored out of ten on three categories based on their observations and interactions. The Cathedral Quarter scored a total of 27/30 across all three categories.   The judges scored the Cathedral Quarter 10/10 for collaboration providing the following comments:   Excellent relationship with Derby City Council who actively supported the application and were present during the visit – crucial for us to see such close working links with the Council. Strong evidence of different key stakeholders involved, from professional services to the market stall holders and the Cathedral.  Good link with the inward investment arm of Derby - It has seen significant investment since the formation of the BID with a number of key developments, including four award-winning managed office complexes, a centre for arts & film, three hotels and a number of other apartment and office buildings. The Cathedral Quarter received a score of 8/10 for innovation. Innovative events programme with a clear focus on music and culture, large and small events to attract and promote local talent, and national acts.  The production of the CQ Prospectus, with good results. The BID Rangers visit businesses on a daily basis - acting as ambassadors for the area and are the link, for consumers who use the Cathedral Quarter, with local businesses and the police to combat anti-social behaviour.  The Cathedral Quarter received a score of 9/10 for outcomes. Impressive achievement in light of strong retail competition - the Cathedral Quarter is now a respected brand and home to over 450 businesses across the retail, professional and leisure sector and hosts the vast majority of the city’s cultural and evening economy venues. Vacancy rates are down with a strong mix of national and independent retail, F&B and leisure uses - working with Marketing Derby to attract nationals such as White Stuff Face and Joules. Overall the judges commented the following: "We look forward to seeing more of this. Derby has impressed us with its wide variety of retail outlets offering such a broad mix of commercial options. They should look to build on their successes by developing the use of digital methodologies across the Cathedral Quarter and making links to the train station corridor to bring even more people to the Cathedral Quarter."   Cathedral Quarter BID asked to submit information for Good Standards Guide     The Cathedral Quarter BID has been asked to submit some text for inclusion in the Great British High Street Awards Good Practice Guide, due for publication later in the year. The BID will be submitting a piece on marketing as part of the innovation category and will let businesses know when the guide is available for reading.   Great British High Street Award Prizes   As reward for its success at the Great British High Street competition, the Cathedral Quarter BID has been awarded prize money of £5,000 to spend on projects and activities for the benefit of the area. We will shortly be asking businesses to let us know, from a shortlist of options, what you would like the prize money to be spent on. Please keep an eye on future BID e-bulletins for further information.   The Rangers have been speaking to businesses about the Google Digital Garage aspect of the prize over the last week.
