  • CQ BID and Business News E-bulletin                                                                     Issue 380 May 2017           Your weekly news & updates      New Cathedral Quarter Events & Activities Leaflet out now A new events leaflet has been produced by the Cathedral Quarter BID showcasing the variety of events and activities on offer throughout the Cathedral Quarter during June to October 2017.   As well as including information on the CQ Saturdays range of events and upcoming festival details, the leaflet includes a summary of some of the events and activities available in Cathedral Quarter venues including Derby Museums, Derby Cathedral, QUAD, Deda and Derby Live venues.   The leaflet will be available at all the venues listed, through Art Boxes throughout the County and via the BID Rangers. If you would like some leaflets for display in your business please speak to the BID Rangers or contact the office on 01332 419053.     Opportunity for businesses to get involved in the CQ Renewal process - workshops in June The Cathedral Quarter BID are holding three further workshops in June providing businesses with the opportunity to feedback on what they would like to see included in the BID Business Plan which will go to ballot in October. The June workshops have been split between the different sectors and will also involve discussions on apportioning budget, boundary review and levy criteria.  The dates and times of the workshops are as follows: Tuesday 6 June 8-9.30am at QUAD on the Market Place - workshop for professional services Wednesday 8 June 3-4.30pm at Revolucion de Cuba on Wardwick - workshop for the evening economy, culture and leisure Wednesday 8 June 5.30-7pm at The Old Bell on Sadler Gate - workshop for Retail and Health & Beauty. Clowes Developments submitted plans to upgrade the Grade II listed Royal buildings earlier this year, part of which will look at restoring the facades of the building to their original design.  The plans also include amendments to vacant units making them easier to rent out and more desirable to new tenants.     Other important news for businesses     'Derby Store Wars' event comes to Cathedral Quarter - Thursday 1 June As part of National Volunteers Week 2017, Business in the Community in partnership with Community Action Derby has organised a 'Derby Store Wars' event to take place on Thursday 1 June.   The Store Wars concept sees local businesses or organisations ‘take over’ a charity shop for the day in order to raise as much money as possible for the charities concerned. Those in the Cathedral Quarter taking part include British Heart Foundation on Cornmarket, Padley Group on Sadler Gate and Lighthouse on Albert Street.  This first Derby Store Wars will be a pilot and, if successful, will become an annual event to help raise money for charities in Derby.     Peregrine Project - Watchpoint and webcam details It is a busy time for the city's Peregrine Falcons as the three juveniles born this year continue to grow and get ready to fly the nest from Derby Cathedral. The Peregrine project gives visitors the opportunity to view these beautiful birds up close by staging free watchpoints on Cathedral Green between 11am - 1.30pm every Wednesday and Saturday throughout June. Can't make it to a watchpoint? You can also monitor the chick's progress online on one of four webcams installed around the nesting site. For further information look out for the Peregrine Project leaflets or click here to be directed to the website, blog and webcams.     Derby Ramathon - Sunday 4 June 2017 Sunday 4 June sees the Derby Ramathon taking place in the city with the route taking runners through Cathedral Quarter streets. The event is expected to attract both a large number of runners and spectators with some road closures taking place in the morning. Research following last year's Ramathon indicated that the event brought almost £130k to the Derby economy.   • CQ BID and Business News E-bulletin                                                                     Issue 377 May 2017           Your weekly news & updates      Google Digital Garage event held on 11 May The Google Digital Garage, part of the prize for winning 'Best City Location' at the Great British High Street Awards in December, was held at QUAD on Thursday 11 May. The event was attended by over thirty businesses who received coaching on digital skills and techniques from a google expert with the aim of helping to grow their business. The family fun day kicks off on Cathedral Green from 11am to 3pm with stalls and refreshments plus the judging of the Best Dressed Duck competition. The race itself starts at 1.30pm.  For further information on the event and how you can get involved, please click here.     BB&J Commercial Charity Ball raises money for Special Baby Care Unit BB&J Commercial, a firm of chartered surveyors and commercial property consultants based on Iron Gate, raised more than £10,000 at their annual charity ball held recently at Derbyshire County Cricket Club. The winners of the awards will be announced at a gala awards dinner to be held at the Roundhouse on 8 June. We wish them all the best of luck.     Other important news for businesses     CQ Saturdays Street Circus returns on 13 May CQ Saturdays Street Circus returns to the Cathedral Quarter on Saturday 13 May with a day of free entertainment at the Waterfall stage in the Market Place. The events are organised for the Cathedral Quarter by Déda Producing and will be held on the second Saturday of every month between 11am and 3pm in the run up to Derby Festé in September (Friday 29 and Saturday 30). This year's programme sees the return of some firm favourites as well as some quality new acts. This months event will be compered by Juan Carlos of Chango Fuego – a performer with his own special brand of fire juggling, uni-cycling and comedy.  He will be joined by  Covent Garden and Edinburgh Fringe veteran, James Waudby, who now brings his unique performance to the Cathedral Quarter.     German Bierfest comes to the Market Place 11-14 May Following the success of last year's event, the German Bierfest returns to the Market Place from 11 - 14 May. The Bierfest is about much more than beer with experiences for the whole family. There will be a German Village with wooden huts selling everything from Bratwurst to authentic German products. As well as the Bavrian Fest Tent there is also an open air Bier garden where you can enjoy a stein of one of three handmade German beers, a German DJ set and a FunTime area for kids to enjoy traditional German fun activities.
