Ye Olde Dolphin, Derby’s oldest public house, is one of the most historical parts of Derby. With a story in every room, the building beams with history with stories dating from 1530a.d, the year the Dolphin was constructed.

Enter into the Dolphin from Queen Street and you’ll step into the main bar, the oldest room in the pub with an open fire to warm the cold winter days! Go straight through the main bar and you enter the Offilers Lounge aptly named after the Offilers Brewery, the upbeat vibe matched with the relaxed environment is the perfect situation for a pint of your favourite beer. Enter the pub from Full Street and you walk into the lounge, a beautiful room with wooden beams that add character and history to the already historical building, all of which is complimented by the delicate fire that creates a cosy and homely feel; we welcome all families to join us in our lounge. And to round it all up we have our ‘snug’, possibly the cosiest of them all that generates conversations between strangers from all walks of life. The small and tranquil room is the best place to be when wanting a quiet and relaxed drink after a long hard day!

Then there’s the ghosts. The stories of the history of the pub are made real by the ghosts that haunt us. Whether it’s the boy that sits on the stairs, the Grey Lady that haunts the steak bar that the landlord himself, Jim Harris has witnessed; or it’s the flying Scotsman that runs up and down the corridor that breaks up the two buildings of the pub. And finally there’s the scariest of them all, the girl that lives in our cellar. The story of the days when scientists would dissect humans who have passed away in order to gain insight into the human body. One cold evening in the middle of the night the girl opened her eyes and came back to life in our cellar as a scientist was practicing his dissection skills. Every now and then the horrified screams of the girl can be heard in the dead of night.

The Dolphin has history going far beyond our ghostly stories, from the times when Hay Carts got fined for parking outside the pub to the times when Dick Turpin had an affair with a women living in the building.

History runs through the veins of the Dolphin and it is in respect to the building and the past it has we serve the finest ales around. So, come in, have a drink, and take a step back in time.
